Laura and Ian’s recent rural engagement session Herefordshire

Recently I met up with Laura and Ian for their very rural engagement session Herefordshire. I don’t generally push the pre-wedding photo shoot as it contradicts my style natural style of photography. Obviously, there is nothing natural about a walk in the countryside with a photographer stalking you! That said it is a great opportunity for us to get to know each other. This, in turn, will make the couple feel more comfortable with me on the wedding day. However, during the photo session, I stay as true as I can to my natural documentary wedding style. I don’t over pose the couple, instead, encourage them to interact. This creates more natural moments.

On the wedding day itself, I tell the story as events unfold. Capturing moments, whilst considering lighting, composition and of course split-second timing. That said most couples do want a few shots around the venue or wedding location. I don’t labour too much over this, just taking the couple away for 15 minutes or so. After all, I don’t want to drag them away from their guests too long. The engagement session is a great opportunity for them to get familiar with this process. Nothing contrived or over posed, just natural looking shots. There is nothing worse than a couple looking stiff and cardboard-like, so I avoid this at all costs.

Laura and Ian are getting married next year in the beautiful rural Herefordshire. They plan to set up a marquee in Ian’s parents garden. I really enjoyed myself photographing them and I know they did too. I know we are going to get some cracking shots on their big day and I’m certainly looking forward to it.You can view some of my favourite images below.
