How much should you pay for a wedding photographer?

It always amazes me how much the typical couple spends on their wedding. Budgets can range dramatically of course.

When it comes to the photography, sometimes people will know the difference between a good photographer and an average one. On occasions, the wedding photography isn’t that crucial to them, but thankfully for us wedding photographers, it usually is a big part of their wedding planning and so important to them that they are very keen to make the right choice.

After all, we’ve all know the ‘Uncle Bob at the wedding’ scenario. Never make that mistake! Although, I should mention that I come across many versions of ‘Uncle Bob’ at my client’s weddings and they are very nice indeed. Though they usually shadow me and try to get the same shots, so I’m often falling over the likes of an Uncle Bob!

How can you be sure you get value for money

Seriously though, what do you really need from your wedding photographer and how can you be sure to get real value for money? That doesn’t mean how many hours for the price, but more like choosing someone who can blend into your day rather than boss you around. Also, a top priority should be a seasoned professional who can bring creativity into the mix. The result will be amazing final images and a unique story of your wedding day!

Of course, it also depends on the style that you prefer. If you like lots of formal shots, choose someone formal (and bossy), who specializes in exactly that.

If you like relaxed, documentary style photography, you can still add some more set up shots to the mix, but you should choose the kind of person who is relaxed, creative and has plenty of experience.

So really, the cost of a wedding photographer isn’t about the actual monitory price, but about the creative value that they bring in order to produce your unique story.
