Johnson family portrait session / Portrait photographer Tetbury

 

It was great to meet and photograph the Johnson family at Westonbirt School in Gloucestershire just prior to Christmas.

They were fun to photograph and I enjoyed every minute of it and I’m pretty sure they did too.

I never rush into a family shoot as I believe it’s important to get to know people and make them more relaxed. Once people are relaxed, you get great photos. On this occasion, we all started off with a cup of tea:) The Johnson family are already pretty relaxed anyway, so conversation came easy. At any family photo session, it’s important to let the kids have fun. Many kids are terrified of having their photos taken or just find the whole thing boring. Probably due to tedious school and traditional family studio sessions. I try to get away from all of that. I find working in a studio very limiting. There’s only so many things you can do in front of a backdrop and it doesn’t feel natural.

You can’t beat on location photography

On location, you have the choice of various backdrops and you can never beat natural light. The kids can relax in this, in turn, makes Mum and Dad, relax. The Johnson family took Grandma and Grandma along to, so the more the merrier as far as I was concerned.
